Dave Gilkey, DC, DABCO, DACBOH, MEPM, PhD
Dr.
Gilkey graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (now the
Southern California Health Sciences University). He entered private
practice in San Jose, CA where he specialized in occupational health.
Dr. Gilkey continued postgraduate work earning his Diplomate in Chiropractic
Orthopedics and Occupational Health. He earned his master’s
degree from the University of Denver in Environmental Policy and Management
with a specialization in environmental health and safety, then earned
his PhD in Environmental Health at Colorado State University (CSU)
with a concentration in occupational safety and health, industrial
hygiene and a dissertation specialization in construction ergonomics.
Dr. Gilkey joined the faculty of Colorado State University in the
Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences (ERHS)
as an Assistant Professor. He is the current Director of Undergraduate
Education for the ERHS bachelor’s program in Environmental
Health. He teaches extensively in the areas of environmental and
human health and ergonomics. His research experience includes acting
as study coordinator for the HomeSafe Pilot Project in the Denver
Metro area. This research project (funded by NIH/NIOSH-R01) evaluated
a residential construction program developed through a strategic
partnership with OSHA and the Home Builders Association of Metro
Denver. He was awarded an NIH/NIOSH-R03 to evaluate risk factors
for occupational back pain among residential carpenters. He has
collaborated on research projects with the University of Utah in
the area of ergonomics and continues to work with scientists at
CSU and other institutions. He is a Faculty member of the Institute
of Evidence-Based Chiropractic.
